Elementary

Building Foundations in Faith and Learning

Understanding that our students are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, we strive to provide our first through fifth graders with a Jesus-focused bible-based comprehensive education. This includes differentiated instruction in the core subjects as well as enriching experiences that nurture the whole child.

Core Curriculum

Students experience a comprehensive literacy program with the integration of language arts including phonics, and differentiated word study, guided reading, and book studies. Differentiated instruction in math with a focus on conceptual understanding and mastering the basic facts challenges students at every level.  Grade and age-appropriate instructional practices in science and social studies are presented at each elementary level emphasizing active learning experiences and student-created presentations and projects.: Bible Math Language Arts Science and Social Studies

Elective Opportunities

Jr. Cougars grow and discover their gifts through engaging experiences in art, music, Spanish, physical education, guidance, library, and technology (grades 3–5).

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the classroom, students build community and spark curiosity through diverse extracurriculars like Sports Clinics, Science Explorers, and Bible Club, alongside unique activities that change each year.

Assessments

CCS Elementary utilizes several assessments to monitor student growth and progress throughout the school year.

Timesterly Assessments

Acadience- Acadience is a standardized benchmark assessment tool administered each trimester in reading and math. The data obtained through this assessment tool assists us with monitoring and determining whether our students are making anticipated progress and aids student placement for additional support.

Developmental Spelling Analysis (DSA) - The DSA is administered each trimester to first determine a student’s stage of spelling development and second, to monitor how the student is progressing through the features in words. This supports the development of in-class small group word study instruction based on the individual needs of each student.

 

Annual Assessments

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (IOWA Assessment)  - The IOWA is an annual achievement test given to students in first through eighth grades. The data collected assists with monitoring individual student and school-wide proficiency in core subjects. These subjects include math, reading, language arts, science, and social studies.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) - This evaluation tool is administered to students in third and fifth grade. It evaluates how students reason and problem solve, assessing a student’s verbal, non-verbal, and quantitative reasoning.
